On the 15th of September, Roni F. Matar will be delivering a 90-minute introduction to the models of Integral Eye Movement Therapy and Metaphors of Movement online through Zoom. The session is a free introduction where some theory and practice will be conducted for the attendees to have some experience in both modalities created by UK Therapist Andrew T. Austin
IEMT is an innovative therapeutic approach that utilizes Eye Movement Processes and Linguistic Analysis in order to help people create both remedial and generative change. The model was initially inspired by Andrew’s work in the Neuro Surgery unit in his early days as a nurse when he observed certain aspects of how patients responded to some of the tests that the Neuro-Surgeons were doing. He then started experimenting by comparing with other Eye Movement approaches that were being used, such as Eye Movement Integration (EMI) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), developing what worked, and discarding what didn’t base on his day-to-day interactions with clients since the mid-90s. Throughout his experimentation over the years, he spotted what he called “The Major Patterns of Chronicity”, which became a central theme for the approach and helped in creating the most significant changes in a lot of his therapy clients. He then came to a point where the work led him to Metaphorical explorations of a person’s experience. From there, he developed his other model, which is called “Metaphors of Movement”.
“Metaphors of Movement” is a forensic linguistic analysis tool that has its uses in Therapy, Business, and Change-work, which developed from the IEMT work and Andrew’s observation of the work initially produced by Charles Faulkner on Autogenic Metaphor. Autogenic Metaphor is how humans describe their experience; for example, someone might say, “I’ve reached a dead end”, “it’s like I’m drowning”, “they left me hanging”. These expressions are usually dismissed and considered as figurative, whereas they describe exactly what a person experience at that specific moment. Using “Metaphors of Movement”, a person can help themselves or someone else understands what they are experiencing in the here and now, and from there discover what are the minimal but most useful steps they can take in order to change what they are experiencing to something that is more functional for them, which can lead to generative changes in their lives. The model focuses on moving from Kinesthetic Denial of experiencing to more awareness of what is happening and what is simply the story someone is telling or thinking to match the social and cultural norms.
Roni is a change work professional that is also an approved trainer of IEMT, Metaphors of Movement, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Hypnosis, Time Line Therapy, and NLP Coaching. Since 2013, Roni has worked with individuals to help them understand their experiences and learn how to deal with fears, phobias, anxiety, and emotional challenges. He also has trained coaches and therapists on the above-mentioned modalities. Another aspect of his work is with corporates and NGOs, where he trained professionals on how to manage stress, become better salespeople, and become better public speakers.
The event is free and is co-organized by Toni Babic, Trainer and Coach. Attendees will be eligible for a 25 % discount on any of the future IEMT and Metaphors of Movement (Levels 1-2) that will be conducted in the upcoming six months by Roni F. Matar.
